Telecoms Continuity
The need for a carefully-planned Business Continuity strategy is well understood, and there are many organisations out there that can offer an extensive range of solutions and support. At Obsidian we don’t claim to be able to solve all of your Business Continuity requirements, but our Telecoms Continuity solution can form a vital part of your overall strategy.
There are a whole range of ‘disasters’ which you need to cater for when making your Business Continuity plans. But regardless of how simple, or severe, the situation might be – one of the key things that you absolutely must be able to do is communicate by phone. Not only to make calls but also to ensure that your customers, suppliers and partners can still contact you, so you can continue with ‘business as usual’ as much as is humanly possible.
Key features
- A wireless solution which ‘bridges the gap’ in the event of a fixed line network failure
- Calls are diverted to the mobile network seamlessly, on demand
- Minimises the disruption normally caused by such a failure
- Supports your Business Continuity strategy
- Combined Solution available at no cost to you
- Tailored plans to suit your individual capacity requirements
- No initial set up cost
How it works
In the event of a total failure of your fixed line network, for example if cables are cut as a result of road works in the street outside your offices the standard Business Continuity offering would be to reroute incoming calls to extensions at a temporary location, or to another site which is not affected. This not only takes time, but also causes untold business disruption as you will not have the right resources in the right place at the right time. And added to this of course, your ability to make outgoing calls from landline phones is totally compromised.
So wouldn’t it be better if you could find a way to simply ‘bridge the gap’ in your fixed line network so that everyone can stay where they are, making and receiving calls as normal without any negative effect on the business at all?
With Obsidian’s Telecoms Continuity solution you can do just that. And depending on which option you choose, this service can even be provided at absolutely no cost.
Why Obsidian?
We are the UK’s largest provider of fully-compliant Landline to Mobile Cost Saving services, which are delivered via a GSM Gateway. This is plugged in to the customer’s existing PBX, routing all calls from landlines to mobiles via the Gateway and effectively turning them into ‘mobile to mobile’ calls.
For further information see landline to mobile cost saving.
Because the GSM Gateway creates a direct wireless connection between the phone system and the mobile network, it can also be used to support your Business Continuity strategy. Should your landlines become unavailable for any reason, the Gateway can be instructed to carry all types of inbound and outbound calls instead enabling your organisation to carry on working, even if your phone lines are not, with absolutely no upheaval whatsoever.

Option One - Standalone Solution
Our Telecoms Continuity solution can be implemented as a standalone service, without taking advantage of our Landline to Mobile Cost Saving services at the same time. This simply involves
plugging the GSM Gateway into your PBX and installing sufficient channels to give you the same level of service, in the event of a total failure of your fixed line network, as you would normally have.
Your individual Telecoms Continuity plan can be tailored specifically to your organisation’s exact needs, so that you only pay for the channels you require.
Option Two - Combined Solution
We can include our Landline to Mobile Cost Saving service as part of your Telecoms Continuity solution. This is achieved simply by installing the GSM Gateway with enough channels not only to
support your Business Continuity strategy, but also to enable all of your landline to mobile call traffic to be routed via the Gateway as well. The main advantage of this is that all of the costs of the Telecoms Continuity solution are covered by the savings generated, and you will also still benefit from substantial savings on top.
